APPLICANT FAQ
Who Can Be A LEAH Mentor?
- Any BPS student in grades 9-12. Preference will be given to 10th and 11th graders.
What Do LEAH Mentors Do?
- Learn about science, other subjects and how to teach younger kids
- Provide support for after school programs while serving as role models for elementary and middle school students
- Meet high school students from across Boston and gain a support network
- Receive intensive training on classroom behavioral management, activity preparation, professionalism, and science topics relevant to LEAH curriculum
What Are The Requirements?
- Attend 2 meetings per month (on Fridays)
- Participate in 2 months of training(Mondays & Wednesdays 3:45pm-5:45pm) in November and December at Northeastern University
- Work two afternoons a week at an afterschool program from January - June
- Participate in community events, volunteer service, and city-wide leadership
Are LEAH Mentors Paid?
- LEAH mentors are paid a small stipend. During training, the stipend is equivalent to $9 per hour. Once training is completed, Mentors stipends are increased to $10 per hour. There is also an increase for a second and third year of participation.
