Overview

teacher in classroomDELTAS SEEKS TO ENHANCE THE QUALITY of out-of-school time programs by offering professional development (PD), technical assistance, resources, and tools to staff working in afterschool programs in the City of Boston. The department assists in the coordination of resources and information between out-of-school and in-school programs in order to maximize the efforts of education professionals working with Boston Public Schools students.

PD is offered in the form of trainings/workshops, intensive 30-hour college credit-bearing courses, and on-site technical assistance. The goal of DELTAS PD is to provide all adults who influence the lives of BPS students with the tools to provide environments that encourage the academic, physical/nutritional, and social/emotional development of young people. Current PD opportunities include:
  • BRIDGING THE GAP TRAINING SERIES: Workshops aimed at connecting staff who work in afterschool programs with the language, concepts, and tools used during the school day.

  • LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE: In partnership with local universities and other training agencies, the Leadership Institute offers 30-hour intensive courses which may be taken for college credit.

  • ACHIEVE BOSTON: Achieve Boston is a collaborative effort to help afterschool and youth workers develop their professional skills and knowledge, advance their careers, and ultimately better serve children, youth, and families. Achieve Boston offers afterschool and youth workers a locally-based and easy-to-access training system. Achieve Boston is proud to have launched the School Aged and Youth Development Credential (SAYD) for afterschool professionals. For more information on the SAYD and other training opportunities, please visit the Achieve Boston website.
